Fonts vs Typefaces

A typeface means a style of lettering that can be used in many different typesetting systems.

A font (today) means a digital implementation of a typeface.

Please refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_font and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typefaces respectively.

The Fontforge documentation has a good glossary

OFL

The SIL Open Font License and the Open Font Library share the same acronym, OFL.

To avoid confusion, please refer to the Open Font License as "the OFL" and the Open Font Library as the "OFLB"

Open Font Movement =

A clearer term related to the Open Font Library and usage by a wide community of users of the Open Font License. "free fonts" are very often associated with distribute-but-don't-modify freeware fonts and don't reflect what this community is about.
