RoboFab is a collection of free software Python tools for advanced font development, although many parts depend on proprietary FontLab.

One of the most important aspects is the UFO font source format.

TypeSupply publishes a collection of similar free software tools, although many of these depend on proprietary Mac OS X.

Here are some Robofab scripts for FontLab that could be ported to FontForge Python:

  • Ben Kiel has published many of his RoboFab-FontLab scripts under the non-commercial (and thus, non-free) Creative Commons BY-SA-NC license.
  • Brook Elgie has published a free software (MIT/X11 licensed) Robofab-FontLab script that publishes a font to a SVN repository, and an updated version of Ben Kiel's 'Generate Font' script.
